Located in the heart of Midtown, The Block at Midtown is an adaptive reuse of a building originally constructed in the 1930s. Having served a variety of uses over the decades, the building is now thoughtfully remodeled to deliver 9,926 SF of revitalized retail space. The renovation brings new life to a longstanding neighborhood landmark.
The renovation introduces an updated building envelope and a new outdoor dining area, blending modern functionality with timeless design. New materials, including fluted EIFS detailing and a Santa Barbara stucco finish, enhance the exterior, while much of the original interior wood columns and structural elements remain intact—preserving and celebrating the building’s rich historic character.
While the typical approach to the improvement in the Houston area is to tear down and rebuild with new, this project endeavors to preserve part of Houston’s past within the Midtown District by building upon the strong foundation that has stood the test of time. The adaptive reuse of this building and site now breathes life into an area that was once abandoned and forgotten by time.
